Trying to Live in the Image of God
In light of our sessions, I was thinking about what does it mean to me to live in the Image of God?
I was helped when my son called me rather upset from school saying that he had left his lunch and a pair of shorts he needed for a day trip at home. He said the bus was leaving in ten minutes, could I please drop off the stuff at school. NOW.
During the drive over, I kept saying to myself over and over again “Image of God, Image of God”. When I got there I saw that he was very pressured, upset and late for his trip. I decided that this was not the moment for a lecture about responsibility or lack thereof but rather made a mental note to talk to him tonight when he is calm and ready to hear my lecture (my paternal right).
I did not want to react to his irresponsibility with frustration or anger. I asked myself “what would God do”? Even though I was very late for a meeting as a result, I said to myself that he is my “charge” in this world and I must protect him first and foremost. I’ll let you know how my lecture goes later.
